Sunflower's Finale
The sunflower has lost its glory,
its petals turned shriveled and gray.
It's become part of a new story;
usefulness will now see its day.
Its bent posture now seems dry and so dead,
but its dry crown supports a small bird,
whose agile body curves, and his head
reaches down and pecks seeds well matured.
If you would look now at the flower,
lovely would not be the word,
but, altered by time, has the power
to nourish the small hungry bird.
