The Height of Summer
The county fair has closed its gates once more,
now black-eyed-susan, and queen Anne's lace line the road.
Department stores with "back to school" outpour;
soon black and yellow buses will drive up to load.
Nostalgia now proceeds from many a heart
those who recall their own school days, or it may be.
they see their little ones--first time--depart,
or high school seniors, soon on their own to be.
The height of summer joined by shorter days,
fosters a burning to reap and complete.
Of two minds, the time is almost gone to laze,
and see if sun can tan the soles of feet.
Though summer time is here a long time still,
let's not waste summer's vista from the hill.
